The Department of Pediatrics was established on 16.06.2008 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.
On 22 January 2009, at the meeting of the employees of the Department of Pediatrics, Prof. Dr hab. n. med. Piotr Jurkowski was appointed at the position of the Head of the Department of Pediatrics.
The research conducted by the Department of Pediatrics concerns the influence of environmental factors on the development of organisms and tissues.
The Department of Pediatrics carries out examinations concerning the decision's support in medicine with the help of advanced statistical methods.
The workers of the Department of Pediatrics give classes in pediatrics and special nursing in pediatrics and physical examinations with students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn on the following faculties: nursing, bridge nursing, and after achieving the third year of studies by students of medical faculty.
The subject matter of classes includes comprehending the norm in pediatrics, physiology and pathology of the immune system with special including of states appearing at children, jaundices – clinical picture laboratory tests, patomechanism, inborn and acquired heart defects and of large dishes, electrocardiography - physiology and pathology at children, physical examinations in pediatrics and the childlike surgery, acting in sudden states, of recommending protectively – nursing in the period of the development at healthy and ill children.
