Classes

 Teachers employed in the Department of Pediatrics, lead classes in Introduction to Pediatrics with third-year students of the Medical Direction and with students of the third year of the English Division. Department staff also conduct classes in Biostatistics with third-year students of the Medical Direction, the first year of the second degree in Nursing and with the students of the second year of the medical emergency.

 The Introduction to Pediatrics is 80 hours - 10 hours of lectures, 10 hours of seminars and 20 hours of exercise in two-semester cycle. Classes are conducted in non-clinical centers (Regional Hospital - Department of Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care, Children's Hospital, NZOZ Remedium Olsztyn, NZOZ  L. Rydygier.

Classes in Biostatistics are carried out in a series of semester. Students, depending on the field of study pursue the subject in the form of lectures or lectures, exercises and seminars or in the form of lectures and exercises.

 

Topics of Introduction to pediatrics includes:

Semiotics  and immunoprophylaxis  of the infectious  diseases.  General symptoms of the infectious diseases ( measles, mumps, rubella, chicken-pox, rotavirus gastroenteritis), vaccinations -  pathophysiology,  vaccines schedule.

Children physical development – speed and pattern of development in newborns, infants, toddlers. Puberty. Differences between male and female puberty. Precocious and delayed puberty. Development of secondary and tertiary sex characteristics in boys and girls.

Paediatric  counseling. The role of the doctor in case of the most common symptoms in  a healthy child –      primary and secondary prophylaxis. The febrile child- common causes of the fever, approach, types of the fever.

Metabolic disorders in children. Diabetes mellitus, cystic fibrosis, phenyloketonuria,  alkaptonuria, metabolic syndrome

 

 

Topics of Biostatistics includes:

The basic principle of collecting and preparing the data for analysis. principles, methods, and tools used to analyze and interpret the results. data analysis

Computer programs in the development of statistics. Statistical inference in the critical analysis of the data

Students of all courses conducted at the Faculty of Medical Sciences can expand their knowledge and interest in the meetings of the Scientific Society of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. Meetings allow students to deepen their knowledge in pediatrics in the care of experienced pediatricians.
